This is a review for the Milwaukee 2605-20 cordless SDS plus hammer drill. It is not a kit and comes with just the tool, but if you already have some Milwaukee tools, then you don’t need to hear about the quality and power of the battery packs. You already know how well they perform. On the other hand, you may be on the fence about this hammer drill. Well, first of all because it is a Milwaukee, you know what you are getting into. This tool is tough and it is well built. In fact, if you didn’t know that it was a cordless version to start with, you probably wouldn’t even be able to guess that it was. If I attached a cord, not many people would be able to tell the difference. It has a real weigh to it, like a tool should, but it isn’t over heavy.
It weighs in at about 6 pounds and it is pretty compact as well. It feels heavy duty without weighing you down and that works great for this kind of tool. When you are using a cordless hammer drill it is for convenience and portability. So being compact with a lot of power is a great benefit for where you are going to drag this tool to. This thing is quickly becoming my favorite tool in the truck. Even when I have access to power and could use my corded version, I find myself grabbing this one instead. It’s that good. You might ask yourself if you need such a powerful cordless hammer drill, but it all depends on what you are doing. I often find that I need to drill larger holes; up to 2 1/8” with my core bits and this drill does it perfectly. You can use up to a 7/8” standard drill bit for those other jobs and it handles that just fine. It has the SD plus chuck which is industry standard for this size drill and they are easy to change out and use. I also like the pistol grip design; it is just like using your regular drill, only slightly bigger. The detachable handle is easy to position and helps for keeping the drill steady especially when drilling overhead. A lot of the reason that I chose this tool was for using it overhead, and the light weight and compact design has worked out well.
